The MyCoast Project (a Coordinated Atlantic Coastal Operational Oceanographic Observatory) in which QUALITAS is involved as partner has been approved by the Monitoring Committee under the first call for proposals of the 2014-2020 INTERREG Atlantic Area Program.

In total, 425 project proposals were presented to the 1st phase of the call last May 2016. Out of these 425 proposals, only 101 projects made it to the second phase. During last Programme Monitoring Committee held in Porto last 4-5 May 2017, 45 projects in total were selected to receive funding.

The MyCoast project aims to build a coordinated Atlantic Coastal Operational Observatory in the Atlantic area joining capabilities from all the 5 countries of the programme area and from existing cross-border cooperation activities, all targeted towards the improvement of coastal monitoring and forecasting tools to support threat and emergency response. MyCoast will allow deploying and capitalizing innovative and standardized tools in the risk management systems applied mainly to (i) extreme weather events leading to flooding, (ii) maritime safety and (iii) coastal pollution.

MyCoast counts with 15 partners from the 5 eligible countries under the Atlantic Area Programme and is led by AZTI Foundation from the Basque Country (Spain). QUALITAS will be participating in an action under MyCoast to analyse and improve High Frequency Radar (HFR) wave outputs. This action will establish new methods for analysis of HFR wave measurement capability, quality control and performance metrics.

The project has a total budget of 2.998.954 € and a duration of 32 months.
